HMRC to clamp down on tax evaders
Richard Murphy is one of the few chartered accountants I respect and admire. He writes extensively about tax and although he and I do not agree on everything, he never engages in scaremongering. So when I saw a mention on his blog that HMRC are going to clamp down on tax evaders I thought it was worth reading as too often these stories are written to create more income or more publicity for the big firms.

Although most people will not be affected by the new rules the important point I believe is that HMRC are becoming more willing to go out and look for tax evasion rather than wait for it to land on their desks. This approach will no doubt filter down to local tax offices who up to now have taken a back seat when it comes to checking tax returns and accounts.

In future more attention will be paid as to how taxpayers and businesses conduct their business affairs.
