HMRC were unimpressed with Funda Catal's arguments that she didn't realise that non-British citizens had to pay tax and charged her £45,000 in tax, £8,000 in penalties and £4,000 in interest.
The moral of this episode is:
- HMRC will probably catch up with you at some stage.
- When they do you will be charged penalties and interest on top of the tax which is due.
- It's better to register with HMRC, find a good accountant and let them minimise your tax bills
- You'll sleep better!
